Description
This image of the Chihuahuan Desert is typical of the scenery you will find in the area around Fort Davis, Texas. It reminds me of the sets of the old western B movies. I can almost see Roy Rogers and Trigger chasing the bad guy up this hill.
The Chihuahuan Desert is the largest desert in North America. Covering more than 200,000 square miles most of it lies south of the Mexican border. In the U.S. it extends into parts of New Mexico, Texas and sections of southeastern Arizona. The minimum elevation is above 1,000 feet, but the vast majority of this desert lies at elevations between 3,500 and 5,000 feet. An important characteristic of the Chihuahuan Desert is the many small mountain ranges, including the Franklins in Texas, and the San Andres and Doņa Anas in New Mexico.
