Description
We found this weathered wooden cross leaning against the fron of the church at Mission Espada in San Antonio, Texas. In 1731, Mission San Francisco de la Espada was established along the bank of the San Antonio River. Spanish Franciscan missionaries pursued a powerful vision for God and country and over a 50 year period, they earnestly taught the native Americans the principles of farming, ranching, architecture, black smithing, loom weaving, spinning, and masonry.
