Description
The warm light of sunrise bathes the Chihuahuan Desert in west Texas near Fort Davis. The Chihuahuan Desert is the largest desert in North America. Covering more than 200,000 square miles most of it lies south of the Mexican border. In the U.S. it extends into parts of New Mexico, Texas and sections of southeastern Arizona. The minimum elevation is above 1,000 feet, but the vast majority of this desert lies at elevations between 3,500 and 5,000 feet. An important characteristic of the Chihuahuan Desert is the many small mountain ranges, including the Franklins in Texas, and the San Andres and Doņa Anas in New Mexico.
