Description
The Texas Theatre was opened on West Jefferson Boulevard in Oak Cliff, Texas with fanfare on San Jacinto Day, April 21, 1931. The Texas' developers spared no expense and boasted that the theater was fireproof and was constructed entirely of concrete. The theater was the first in the area built for talking pictures. The cooling system made it the first theater in Dallas with air conditioning.
Unfortunately the Texas became part of American history when on November 22, 1963 at approximately 1:45 p.m Lee Harvey Oswald (the accused assassin of President John F. Kennedy) chose it as a hiding place.
