Artist's Description

You will find this old oak tree on the grounds of the Alamo in downtown San Antonio, Texas. Planted in 1912 by Walther Whall, the Alamo Live Oak proved that large trees can be transplanted successfully. Back then, many didn't think it possible to relocate large trees. Whall proved them wrong and started San Antonio's first tree-moving company.

The Mission San Antonio de Valero (the Alamo) was founded in 1718 as the first mission in San Antonio, serving as a way station between east Texas and Mexico. In 1836, decades after the mission had closed, the Alamo became an inspiration and a motivation for liberty during the Texas Revolution.

For 13 days in 1836, close to 200 Texas defenders held the Alamo from over one thousand of General Santa Anna's troops from Mexico. The most famous of the defenders, William Travis, Jim Bowie, and Davy Crockett, died fighting overwhelming odds for freedom.

About David and Carol Kelly

David and Carol Kelly

Thank you for visiting our site. We have been married 58 years and are long time partners in our art as well as life. Most of the beautiful floral and butterfly images are from Carol's camera while most of the rest are from David's. The making of a photographic image requires more than the click of a shutter. In the days of film photography we spent many hours in the chemical darkroom to make the negative more than just a "picture". The current digital darkroom allows far more control and artistic development for the original digital file to come to life as art.You will find in our galleries realistic presentations, simulated paintings and outright digital abstracts. We thank you very much for taking the time to look at our images.
