Big Tex and the Texas Star ferris wheel are the two largest icons of the State Fair of Texas.
Big Tex made his debut at the 1952 State Fair of Texas. He wore size 70 boots and a 75-gallon hat and Big Tex towered 52′ above wide-eyed visitors.
The most popular ride on the midway at the Texas State Fair is the Texas Star ferris wheel. The structure has an overall height of 212 feet and can carry up to 264 passengers in its 44 gondolas.
