Description
The five string banjo is a vital part of the American folk music from the "bluegrass" to "clawhammer" or "frailing" style of picking.
The bluegrass style was developed by Earl Scruggs and consists of playing "roll" patterns with the thumb and first two fingers of the right hand, and is often called "three finger picking".
The old time "clawhammer" or "frailing" style of playing the five-string banjo is becoming increasingly popular. This method of playing is almost the opposite of Scruggs style with the fingers playing with a downward motion instead of picking upwards.
