Description
The Independent Order of Odd Fellows began in 18th Century England where it was deemed odd to find people organized for the purpose of giving aid to those in need without recognition and pursuing projects for the benefits of all mankind. The expansion to the United States and Canada began in 1819 and became the first fraternity in the US to include both men and women. The members of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows are sometimes referred to "Odd Fellows" or "Rebekahs." Odd Fellows have also become known as "The Three Link Fraternity" which is evidenced by the "Three Link Emblem" which stands for Friendship, Love and Truth.
This old Bosque IOOF Hall building located in Meridian, Texas, is a wonderful example of 1896 architecture using native white limestone and overlaid with a cast-iron decorative front.
